If Michigan voters have their way, no more casinos will open without their approval.

In a poll conducted by EPIC/MRA on July 6-8, 68 percent of 600 people surveyed said they would approve a measure that requires a statewide vote before any new non-Indian gambling facilities can open. Twenty-eight percent opposed the measure, and 4 percent were undecided. The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points.

The issue may appear on the Nov. 2 ballot. Organizers of Let Voters Decide -- Yes! turned in 460,000 petition signatures to the Secretary of State's Office last week in order to the get the constitutional amendment on the ballot. They need 317,757 valid signatures for the issue to be put on the Nov. 2 ballot. The state Board of Canvassers has not scheduled a meeting yet to consider the petition.

The petition drive was spearheaded by Detroit casinos and Indian tribes that want to stop a legislative initiative that would allow slot machines at horse racing tracks. The gaming interests also were joined by religious groups opposed to any expansion of gambling in the state.

Fellas, anyone think we will ever see Sports Gambling at any of the Indian Casinos in the U.S.? That is something I wish the Indian Casinos would push or lobby for.

As a Michigan resident I have to say I agree with this legislation and come November (if this is on the ballot) I personally will be voting for statewide approval.

The casino's in Detroit can be a sad sight to those who have been and I think we have enough others sprinkled through the state to satisfy the non-metro detroit crowd.

When I got to LV I see people having fun when I go to the Detroit Casino's, I see auto industry paychecks going into quarter slots.

They were a welcome addition and still serve a purpose but there is no reason to saturate this region. LV, detroit will never be...

This issue should most certainly be voted upon by the people and not just decided by govt officials.

I agree wholeheartedly! Here in Mn. it`s a Bil a yr industry and is controlled by 4 casinos. The poorer ones outside the Metro area(Mpls/StPaul)get zip. Don Laughlin is from Mpls and has offered to work w/the State to put one in splitting the profits. Rejected. Outstate tribes have tried to get one in the TC area. Rejected. The point to ALL of this is that right now Mn. gets NO money from the indians. The idiot governor that signed the original got nothing for the state and made them open ended. So there`s no expiration date. And the Indian lobbyists control the necessary votes so it can`t even get on the ballot. So unless a miracle happens this monopoly will continue. I refuse to give the tribes any more of my $ and no longer play here.

MGM leaders and some Detroit legacies, like boxing legend Tommy “The Hit Man" Hearns officially announced Michigan casinos can now legally accept bets on sporting events.
“We have a couple of different options for people to bet on. Obviously you can go to one of our live windows, where you can place a bet with an actual cashier. You can place a straight bet, a future bet,” said MGM President David Tsai.
Louis Theros, with MGM said, sports betting is a huge deal and multi-million dollar industry and the good news, is some of that money will benefit the local economy.
“So, from the betting and casinos, 55 percent of the tax revenue goes to the city of Detroit, 45 percent goes to the state of Michigan, and with the state of Michigan they allocated those to school aid funds, infrastructure,” Theros said.
“I heard a lot of people talking about betting. I think the sports bets and the casinos are going to be very happy people,” Sicilia said.
